It’s Super Bowl Sunday and there’s only one thing on my mind…HALFTIME
SHOW WITH BEYONCE! Not only will Queen B be strutting her stuff later today,
but Destiny’s Child will be reuniting on stage for the first time in a couple
years! So with their lovely little compilation “Love Songs” out and their
mini-reunion happening soon, let’s look at the best of their incredible
journey!
10.) “No, No, No Part
2” (featuring Wyclef Jean

It was their first single that garnered them the attention
to start it all off. How could I NOT include this on the countdown
somewhere?!!!
9.) “Emotion”

DC is mostly known for their upbeat lady anthems, and not to
mention mainly for Beyoncé’s lead vocals and back-up harmonies from the other
ladies. But every once in a blue moon, Beyoncé steps back a little bit to let
the other ladies have a chance in the spotlight. This time around it was Kelly
Rowland’s sweet voice that starts things off on this rare slow jam, marking
territory on this Bee Gee’s classic.
8.) “Soldier” (featuring
T.I. & Lil’ Wayne)

The girls went hard for this 2004 single off their last
studio album together. Cars were bumping, couple were grinding and getting hood
to this street jam with Beyoncé, Kelly, Michelle getting buck with T.I. &
Lil’ Wayne, proving that girls can ride just as hard too.
7.) “Lose My Breath”

After an impressive solo debut album, Beyoncé gave the girls
another chance and came back to the group for one last album. While this first single
didn’t spark up as much success as it should have done, it still is an
outstanding highlight that proves each woman is extremely talented within the
group and together they are still a force to be reckoned with.
6.) “Bootylicious”

The first of two outrageous songs on this countdown, but
certainly one of the most memorable, this song got us all to shake it all
around! Beyoncé earned a spot in the freakin’ dictionary for crying out loud!
This songs proves that DC can bring the absurd and ridiculous to the airwaves
and still be sexy no matter what (yes, buck teeth and all!).
5.) “Bug a Boo”

This song is impossible NOT to date itself with references
to MCI, AOL accounts, and call-block. It’s the second ridiculous song on the
countdown, but it works for the age of the girls at the time of its release. It
was relevant back then, and for today it’s a nice little memory of what it was
like to be in 1999.
4.) “Bills Bills

In the midst of the pop phenomenon that brought us blonde
white girls and boy bands, Destiny’s Child stood out on their own and
definitely held their own with this chart-topper. Another song relevant for its
time, they started a revolution of women standing up with their own anthems.
Not to mention that their smooth harmonies and the addicting hook helped make
them a staple in the pop world as well as R&B.
3.) “Survivor”

During a time of agonizing group woes and constant rotations
of new girls within, the three remaining ladies proved with this song that they
weren’t going to give into any kind of negativity, and they most certainly won’t
going to give into anyone trying to bring them down. They would survive, and
they’d only continue to work harder than ever before.
2.) “Independent
Women Part I”

A true staple in the career of both Beyoncé AND Destiny’s
Child, it was a songwriting success to prove to both men AND women everywhere
that these ladies could do it for themselves. And of course, it helped to have
the support of a legendary show-turned-movie like Charlie’s Angels to support
the song’s instant success.
1.) “Say My Name”

Say my name, say my name! Of course this would be the best
the girls have to offer! From the mid-tempo introduction, to the fats-paced
build up, all leading to one of the most memorable hooks ever recorded, this
song has it going on in all the right places!
In honor of what would have been Baby Girl’s 24th
birthday today, I wanted to pay tribute to a short but remarkable R&B
career. We miss you…
10.) “Miss You”

A very ironic song that just happened to be leftover from
previous recording sessions, it was used as a special all-star tribute in honor
of her memory, a chance for friends, colleagues, and fans to say their goodbyes
in a beautiful song. It was as if she was speaking to us from heaven.
9.) “Enough Said”

upcoming posthumous Aaliyah album)
Back in August, there was a lot of controversy over a
supposed new album from Aaliyah that was allegedly executive-produced by Drake,
and that did not sit well with regular producers Timbaland and Missy Elliott.
Regardless, there is an elegance and groove to this song that brought Aaliyah
back to life into this day and age where old fans and new fans could appreciate
and miss her beautiful voice.
8.) “One In a Million”

Coming from a strong debut album, Aaliyah went into a
different direction with producers Timbaland and Missy Elliott, bringing to
life a new style of R&B that was cool and funky but still had all the
sensuality of 90’s R&B at the time.
7.) “The One I Gave
My Heart To”

This is arguably her strongest vocal performance ever
recorded. It is a sweeping ballad about heartbreak that really shows Aaliyah’s
range in such a good light. Not to mention that is was written by the
incredible Diane Warren who has a way with words, only brought to life by
Aaliyah.
6.) “Back and Forth”

What started it all, this song was the beginning of Aaliyah.
Listening to it now, it certainly has the power to take you back in the day to
a time that was cool and hip and happening.
5.) “At Your Best (You
Are Love)”

Her first big slow song was this beautiful Isley Brothers
remake. From the acapella intro into the sweet sweet harmonies, this song is
poetry and beauty at its best.
4.) “Rock the Boat”

It’s often hard to watch this music video and not think
about her untimely death, but then I’m reminded of just how beautiful she truly
was inside and out and it really shows in this song. Never mind the fact that
it is such a sexual song, it is memorable and relaxing to listen to.
3.) “Try Again”

Must Die)
Her first acting gig was somewhat overshadowed by this
monster of a song that had us all popping and dropping (in good ways of
course). Timbaland was still in his prime and brought all of his tricks to the
table for this infectious song.
2.) “We Need A
Resolution” (featuring Timbaland)

The song that most people forget is easily one of my
favorites (and definitely one of her strongest) songs in her short catalogue.
After years of showing off her pretty thug style, Aaliyah started to show a sexier,
sensual side in this thumping, out-of-this-world song.
1.) “Are You That
Somebody” (featuring Timbaland)

Arguably her best song, this needs little explanation. It’s
essential Timbaland at his best and Aaliyah bringing her A-game. From the beat,
to the lyrics, and those ridiculous baby cries, this song was genius and is
still a staple in music today.
