2012 Golden Globes Nominations (Screenplay, Animated Feature, Original Song)

You all know just how much I love awards season. But words can't even begin to describe my love and admiration for the Oscars! So while I'd love to present you with my Oscar predictions list for 2012, I have to announce my Golden Globe nomination predictions since those will be announced NEXT THURSDAY! So here is the first of 5 prediction posts!

Best Screenplay
Woody Allen – Midnight in Paris
Nat Faxon, Alexander Payne, & Jim Rash – The Descendants
Annie Mumolo & Kristen Wiig – Bridesmaids
Will Reiser – 50/50
Aaron Sorkin & Steven Zaillian – Moneyball

Woody Allen had yet another critically successful comedy, so it’s a no-brainer that he’ll be nominated in this category. Alexander Payne’s last film Sideways was an awards-show favorite, and The Descendants writing was certainly top-notch. Who would ignore the comedic genius that is Bridesmaids?!!! Not to mention the amazing task of tying comedy into a dramatic film about cancer. And since Aaron Sorkin famously won this award last year for The Social Network, it’s hard not to ignore him this year either.

Best Animated Feature
The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn
Happy Feet Two
Rango
Rio
Puss in Boots

Spielberg is bound to have a big success whether it’s at the box office or with awards-season, so we’re bound to see his first animated feature included in this category. Happy Feet was nominated for this same category years ago, so expect to see the sequel nominated as well. Rango was a little out there, but it stood out of the animated bunch regardless. Rio was just beautiful, colorful, and lots of fun. And Puss in Boots was a great escape from the Shrek series.

Best Original Song
“The Living Proof” – The Help
“Life’s a Happy Song” – The Muppets
“Man or Muppet” – The Muppets
“Pictures in My Head” – The Muppets
“So Long” – Winnie the Pooh

We can’t forget about The Help, especially when a legend like Mary J. Blige contributes a song to the soundtrack. I think it’s safe to say that I have a very big soft spot in my heart for The Muppets this year! From the dazzlingly group number “Life’s a Happy Song”, to the intense question of “Man or Muppet”, and let’s not forget Kermit’s heartfelt “Pictures in My Head”. And since “So Long” from Winnie the Pooh was just nominated for a Grammy award, I think it’s a good choice to have it nominated here.
