2012 Golden Globes Nominations (Supporting Actor/Actress, Director)

Best Supporting Actor
Albert Brooks – Drive
Colin Farrell – Horrible Bosses
John Hawkes – Martha Marcy May Marlene
Jonah Hill - Moneyball
Christopher Plummer – Beginners

There certainly was plenty of greatness jammed into Drive, but one of the most memorable performances (aside from Ryan Gosling of course) was that of Mr. Albert Brooks. Colin Farrell was enough of a scene-stealer to deserve some recognition for Horrible Bosses. “I want you to fire all the fat people, starting with Large Marge”. John Hawkes is always worthy of a nomination. Jonah Hill finally stepped up his game and deserves recognition for it. And Christopher Plummer was a knockout as usual, but this time around it was especially endearing.

Best Supporting Actress
Bérénice Bejo – The Artist
Jessica Chastain – The Help
Melissa McCarthy – Bridesmaids
Octavia Spencer – The Help
Shailene Woodley – The Descendants

The Artist is certainly gaining a lot of awards-season buzz, so I’m expecting Bérénice Bejo to get a nomination along with its star Jean Dujardin. With all of the amazing films she was in for just one year, Jessica Chastain deserves to be nominated, so why not for her most memorable as the adorable Celia Foote. Melissa McCarthy was one of THE best and of the most memorable scene-stealers of the year in one of my favorite films of all time! “Yeah OH SHIT!” Octavia Spencer WILL be nominated for this category, she WILL win. Octavia Spencer WILL be nominated for an Oscar, and she WILL win! I have to say that with Shailene Woodley, I didn’t care for her at all. I didn’t respect her because she’s on one of, if not, THE worst show on television (The Secret Life of the American Teenager). But man oh man, she walked into this movie strong as could be. And she cries underwater for crying out loud! Of course she’ll be nominated!

Best Director
J.J. Abrams – Super 8
David Fincher – The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
Alexander Payne – The Descendants
Nicholas Winding Refn – Drive
Steven Spielberg – War Horse

J.J. Abrams deserves recognition for his amazing Spielberg homage. David Fincher is a shoe-in in my eyes for his beautiful eye for film. Alexander Payne deserves a nomination for the beautiful backdrop that is Hawaii along with great direction of a great cast and great script. Nicholas Winding Refn is a gem, and his film Drive was genius!  And Steven Speilberg? How could you NOT nominate him this year!?
